Additions to the family

June 5th, 2006 by GoldenAppleCorp

After asking everyone we know (as well as complete strangers at yard sales and grocery stores) and being told “I’ll think about it,” we’ve decided to keep *sigh* all three cats.
We listened to mama cat search fruitlessly for her kittens all night Saturday, and some of the day Sunday.  We sent one of them home with Jdub and Dusty yesterday.  We’ve made the living room and kitchen accessible to them.  And we would feel guilty splitting them up further.  When one cat is in the living room and can’t find the others, it mews until they come.  They each have distinctive personalities, including favorite napping spots.  (Couch for Popopolese, subwoofer for Pollux nee Apollo and behind the VHSs for Castor nee Notapollo.)
We figure if we shop smart (mostly at Big Lots) we can get by on fairly cheap litter and food.  After some searching on the ‘nets, we found a place that will spay/neuter and vaccinate all three for $190.  Also, if anyone has any advice or old cat-type trappings they’d like to donate, we’d appreciate it.
Everyone here at HQ seems to be thrilled with our new family members and that makes me very happy.DSC03854.JPG

Anyone who invents and patents an implant for cats that releases a juvenile hormone to keep them as kittens for their entire life would become as wealthy as Bill Gates.

Just keep them off your laptop — they like to sleep there for the warmth. I just finished disassembling mine (again) to vacuum out the cat hair because my keyboard quit working mid-sentence.

We never got mobile with our computing, so the laptop stuff isn’t too important. We’re going to have to invest in a squirt bottle though, I think.

Man, my kids are so happy to have a place where they can get a cat fix. Congrats on your new additions! :) You should totally have a kitten shower.

    That sounds gross.

okay, so I’m finally signing on here per encouragement of GAC and AT. i’ve been meaning to do it for a long time, and perhaps the whole kitten thing encouraged me a tad (i’m not biases at all towards critters at all, you see). anyway, congrats on the new kids. kittens are soooo much fun, and i’m really jealous. i would take one but mojofilter and the phoebe cat would kill me. and the phoebe cat might kill a kitten. i knew i would eventually make you two cat people. ha! now you will understand why we talk so much about our cat. they’re pretty entertaining. anyway, with my silly school schedule it’s likely I won’t get to meet them until they’re teenagers. but, i will give some advice on some cheap toys that will keep both the fam and the kittens entertained. aluminum foil balls (about the size of golf balls) are great, especially on slick surfaces. . .just make sure there’s nothing breakable around. those little pieces of plastic that you pull off the gallon milk jug lids - they’ll go nuts for those. paper bags (the ones from the grocery store), god help us the phoebe cat loves and shreads through those things like candy. why, I don’t know. gift bags also work well, but make sure you cut the handles off so they don’t strangle themselves (i’m not kidding). and if you willing to shed out a few bucks, those little plastic fishing rods with feathers and bells attached to the end are worth it. . .

They are adorable! Great picture! I still can’t help wanting to put thought bubbles about their heads. The right one “What the heck was that flash?!” The left one “He’s stealing our souls!”
