I am looking for a place to live in Oak Ridge right now. My daughter has decided she wants to live with me, and we all want her to continue to go to ORHS. I was looking at the Rolling Hills apartments, but the "V" streets there are on the list. I cannot imagine her having to cross Illinois AND the turnpike on foot every day. Perhaps I should write a note to the management of the apartments telling them why they are off my list of consideration ... OR city council is a slave to the local businesses.

Does OR adhere to Knox Countyless' type of attendance policy? 3 lates = 1 absence; 5 unexcused absences = 1 day in court

They're talking about it, which boggles my mind. I know people who truly won't be able to get the kids to school without bussing, so we'll just see what happens.

While I'm not usually an advocate for most law suits...I can smell one in OR's near future, concerning busing.

The City Manager has approached the Superintendent with an offer for the City to pay half the cost of nine crossing guards; this made me as mad as the whole issue did to begin with.

And yes, it made me very angry.

Public Safety is the City's responsibility. That we have this problem at all is because the City put other departmental needs -- or its slavish devotion to the strategic plan (take your pick) -- above the needs of the school system.

I don't think a lawsuit (over lack of bus service) will go anywhere, because most school systems in the state do not provide bus service within a 1.5 mile radius, and that's all that the state provides any funding for. I know that it's maddening to have something for 60 years and then lose it, but it's not actionable in court.

The ballot box is another matter. There, anything is actionable.

Like I said I don't usually support such lawsuits, but just wait until a child is hurt walking to school....mark my words.
Law vs emotion...what do you think?
