Having a child definitely changes the relationship, and having them gone gives the proof of this change. Still, our daughter was born eleven years into wedlock. When she leaves for college next year, I'm planning to start reconstructing our life along lines closer to those that were familiar during those early years. We've done a little work for the Democratic party both before and since, so I don't think that's the independent variable in the experiment. Your mileage may vary.
