Local racetrack is a dumb idea
July 21st, 2006 by Atomictumor
Unless you’re interested in boosting the mullet ratio in Oak Ridge.
Evidently, people are thinking about putting a racetrack out at K-25. Lets stop and think about that for a minute. Here’s Oak Ridge building all sorts of fancy houses (like Rarity Ridge, which is evidently getting a 60 foot waterslide, meaning AT will be quickly making a friend who lives there) on one side, and then a race track on the other side.
And whats been getting to me are all of the letters of support that have been coming in for it. Theres people from all over the place sending in letters to the Oak Ridger and the Observer supporting the damn thing. Some of the letters point out that some races bring out 50,000 people, which would certainly boost the local economy.
At Big Lots and Taco Bell.
Then it would bring in more traffic, and more need for more law enforcement that Oak Ridge probably can’t afford, seeing as how it can’t swing basic services like full bussing for students, so then we’d have roving bands of Camero driving rednecks taking over the town.
Who’d save us then?
Seriously, theres like a billion things that would be better done here in town. Racers, go to Bristol or wherever. Thanks, no thanks.

I really can’t believe this has much of a future as oil moves towards $100/bbl.

Man, these people have more money than brains, Joel, you know this. They’ll continue to pour it into their cars, because dumber people will continue to pay 30 bucks a ticket to watch cars drive in a circle.

” . . . because dumber people will continue to pay 30 bucks a ticket to watch cars drive in a circle.”
Well, perhaps you know them better than I. The price of gas is probably a small fraction of the total price of admission.

No doubt there, but I’d say the drivers have their gas adequately paid for.

“Rarity Ridge, which is evidently getting a 60 foot waterslide”
‘Enjoy our night-time water sliding with no electric lighting! Imagine whoosing to the containment pool in the natural luminescence of Oak Ridge’s hot springs.’

Dude, that went way over my head.

Dude You keep getting tagged by KNS “No Silence” you’ll soon be an Oak Ridge celebrity.

Did he do it again? Evan’s already yelled at me about it…

OMG … so tell me again why I want to move to Oak Ridge??? Oh yeah … the top-class education available at ORHS. Right.
Speaking of which … does anyone know of a decent 3 bedroom place for rent that will allow me to have my cats too? That will still allow me to buy food each month? Email me if you know of anything … lissakay at gmail

Does this look like Craigslist? Do you see classifieds or ads anywhere?
Thats what the Oak Ridger forum is for.
July 21st, 2006 at 12:48 pm
Hell. Sorr-rry! My F-in bad. FYI, I *have* looked in the classifieds, the ORer forum is a joke, as is Craigslist. I do, however, know that many times there are rentals that are only known by word of mouth. I thought that maybe someone here would be kind enough to point one out to me if they knew about it. Apparently I was wrong … about that “kind” thing anyway.

Heh … well, this certainly backs up my opinion that generally, people in Knoxville are more generous, helpful and hospitable than those in Oak Ridge … http://www.knoxviews.com/node/1567

This thread appears to have turned into a weird waterslide.
July 21st, 2006 at 1:40 pm
But is it a radioactive one?

Rowr!
For advice, questions and recommendations, perhaps opening a new topic in our forum instead of interjecting a completely unrelated question in a post?

It’s been a damn long time since I’ve been on a waterslide, btw. If only Splash Country wasn’t $35/person…
July 21st, 2006 at 2:25 pm
Man, lets build a waterslide…

I’ve always had a soft spot for F1 racing. It’s not as much like driving in a circle. And the cars go significantly faster than the other more boring nascars. It’s just more respectable, not that I’ve watched more than five minutes of it. Maybe ten if its a city track. I don’t pause to watch nascar. I think it would be an awsome place for a circuit type racetrack. They could call it the U235 or atomictumor grand prix.

Dude, man, I just don’t know about that. I don’t think that Oak Ridge needs to be associated with racing at all. I don’t want my town mentioned in the same breath as Bristol and Indianapolis.

race-ist

Now that made me laugh.

I think Oak Ridge really needs another museum. Has anyone heard about the National Park they have proposed for the K-25 site?
Who was the dip**** that proposed a track?

NASCAR, and the racing that will be in Oak Ridge don’t have much in common. Just watch a GP, F1,or F2 Motorcycle or car race, and you will see the difference.
Winning races is not done in the pits, using fuel wisely is what wins races.
