Update on Arthur Nelson

Friday, August 4th, 2006

I’m having an interesting conversation with an anonymous commentor regarding Mr. Arthur Nelson, who was charged earlier in the year with spousal abuse.  I posted a little something about it when I found it in the Oak Ridger, and today our guest has been taking issue on it in our shoutbox.

Now, I’m not doing this to call attention to this conversation, but simply because this conversation is a bit too grand to do in the shoutbox, so, my anonymous friend, I invite you to come over here and continue this in the comments section of this post, if you’d be kind enough.

Our transcripted conversation is as follows:

Guest_4092 : The charges against Arthur Nelson was dismissed/ Seems as if the DA office did not have a victim. Evidently the wife story and the arresing officer story did not line up. I understand that Mr Nelson is living in the home and the family is fine. Where is the apolgy for running this story

AT : The apology is in kiss my ass. Keep on looking, chump. And look at the story again, while you’re at it. Its right here

AT : «link»

AT : Looks to me like his ass was arrested, because his wife called the police. Lets ask around. How many, genuine domestic abuse cases get dismissed because the wife is afraid of testifying?

AT : 5? 10? 1000s? dunno. I stand by the story, and you’re a douche. Hell, he probably is too. Come back again, thanks for posting

AT : Next time, put a name in

GAC : Damn, dude, what’d I miss?

Guest_4092 : The police was not called to the home. Mr Nelson was 48 hrs after the incident.

Guest_4092 : Why did the DA office dismiss the case. A public figure on Domestic Abuse charges

Guest_4092 : AT / Have you meet Mr. Nelson, the story stinks, Are you saying that the OR police are dedicated public servants

GoldenAppleCorp : MushroomCloud?

GoldenAppleCorp : And as far as the DA’s office… why did they do anything they did? Dismissing, plea bargaining, et. al. They weren’t too good at what they did, so I wouldn’t even try to base a case on them.

Guest_4092 : Man, is it more important to be right or to gave a man treated fairly. We are talking about an African American. I am not playing the race card just the facts.

daco : “We are talking about an African American.” What the hell does that have to do with it?

daco : Why even bring up the man’s race. if you don’t want to make an issue of it?

Atomictumor : Ah ha, I was waiting for this to come up…

Atomictumor : Seems to me whats more important is that a man doesn’t beat on his woman. By what you’re saying, are you implying that because he is an african-american, he is more likely to hit his wife? Because thats just going to piss me off.

Atomictumor : Thats racist, and ignorant.

Atomictumor : Whats more, its sexist. But thats not what you’re here to talk about, is it?

Atomictumor : Lets move this to a more appropriate location.

Election aftermath

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Oak Ridger has the laydown here, but as they tend to change their breaking news link for whatever reason, I’m going to copy it over. Haven’t been able to find numbers. I got a copy of the News Sentinel, but for some reason Anderson County doesn’t have any returns. Whats up with that, Mike Silence?
Sheriff - Paul White
DA - Dave Clark
Chancellor - Bill Lantrip
Div 1 General Judge - Don Layton
Juvie Judge - April Meldrum
Trustee - Rodney Archer
District 8 commish - Iwanski and Biloski
District 7 commish - Creasey and Shuey (by one vote, damn!)

Now the commentary.

I’m not sure if I am not getting something that most people are getting, or if that most people voting are a little ignorant of whats going on. Maybe get get swayed by the colorful signs. I don’t get it.

I think I was most tore up about the Gen Judge race, simply because Layton seems to display Scalia like tendancies (like displaying a punk assed attitude) which doesn’t befit the office. Oh well. The Sheriff race I didn’t have much invested in, as long as they’re not out to get me and my precious, I’ll be OK.

Nice to see some change in the Juvie Judge and Trustee side of things. Dammit, I’m for younger people in politics, and its good to see that happening around here. Not that I intend to make much use of either persons services, as my taxes are eschrowed and I don’t even WANT to deal with that, and the minute that MastaG gets into Juvie trouble, ka-pow, military school. Or jail. I’ll be the dad going “Try him like an adult!”

I digress.

Chancellor is probably as it should be. Its a shame that Ramsey is leaving public office with such a stain, as he probably was worthy of more praise at one point. Still, he’s a nice guy (leastways when I met him), and I wish him well.

DA works. I was primarily concerned about Hunt getting in there, so I don’t mind Corea’s loss. It would have been nice to see her, just to see how things would work out, but it also would have been nice to see Nader or Perot win a few years ago for those same reasons. Oh well.

The district elections as well work out. I really didn’t think that district 8 had a bad candidate, and while I was rooting for Brinkman, I don’t lament her loss. No comment on 7, but Eaves and Bos may say more later.

Senatorial race is now Ford and Corker, no big suprise there. Write in A. Tom Ictuma in November and mess with all of their plans. More on that later.

In Knox land, the only beef I have is Hutchison being re-elected. The bastard stands in the way of murder investigations, and has been a source of problems for a decade, and gets re-elected? You Knoxvillians really need to get one of our Police Chief’s of the YearSeriously.
