Edumacatin’ AT

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

For a while now, AT’s felt directionless and purposeless. He’s got a 9-5 (read: 6-3) job that he’s ambivalent towards. He’s got his family, which is good, but we’re layabouts who are often rut-inducing. (The Smurfs don’t count here because emo-hairfull1.jpgof distance.) Other than this website, which can be a little unfulfilling at times, he doesn’t have any hobbies to speak of.

So a couple of weeks ago I suggested he take a class. Nothing heavy, just something that perhaps he’s had an interest in but for whatever reason hasn’t been able to persue.

At first, he seemed to balk at the idea. School is tedious, it will take him away from the house, he’ll have to do night classes, etc etc etc. But he slowly warmed up to the idea.

Today I found out that it’s a done deal. He’s registered with financial aid and applied to the school. He’s even registered for the upcoming semester all ready. A western civ class during the week and a philosophy class on Saturdays. I completely and totally support the taking of classes. They’re both only once a week and at times I can handle.

AT’s even looked into which classes he already has transfer, and what he needs at Roane State to transfer over to UT for a journalism degree.

So bully for you, AT. You were starting to get a little Emo on me anyway.

WB PTO MTG 2NITE

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

6:30, Willow Brook.  Be there or be square.

There will be much talking about buses, among regular PTO stuff.  If you’re concerned about the whole thang, or have information to share (coughnetmomcough) make an appearance and let them know.

Food Shitty SUCKS

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

I wrote about it before, and I’ll say it again: I am so glad it seems they’re going down the tubes.

AT went over a few minutes ago for a quick beer and coffee run, and upon checking out with his Food City card, was asked for his phone number.  And not in a “Damn, your a hot hunk of man, can I call you sometime” kind of way.  Not that he isn’t.

Ahem.  I digress.  Apparently it’s now protocol to give your digits when you use your card.  AT told them no, and a crisis was averted.

Stupid Food City.

Netmom lays it out

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

As a wrap up of last nights school board meeting, Netmom has put an excellent post that I couldn’t have written better highlighting exactly why people like us are concerned about the council/board situation.

…if this continues, Oak Ridge will lose its standing as one of the best school systems in the nation

Thats the entire pony.  If Oak Ridge becomes another crappy bottom percentage Tennessee school system, I no longer see a point of giving a rats ass about the city.  An intelligent city has an intelligent school system.  Sure, it hurts, sure, its expensive, but thats how it works.

Barefoot and Pregnant

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

In preparation of mrs. eaves’s impending bundle, and because we like to do it, GAC and I made a bitchin CD of songs. I’d call it a compliation CD, but thats what teenage girls do.

Normally, I’m a big (huge) proponent of the album format. I think, whether intentionally or otherwise, when an artist creates an album its giving us a slice of their lives at the time that the album was created, and to remove the songs from the context of the album tends to cheapen them somewhat.

Of course anybody who’s read my ramblings for a while knows that I’m a bit idealistic about my music.

Anyway, in the face of all this, and because we wanted to show off some of the new music we’ve been listening to (well, not really new, but the stuff we’ve aquired recently) we threw together a couple of CDs for the Cemestos Gardenites.

I wouldn’t normally sully the fine institution of Atomictumor.com with something like this, but as I’ve been listening to these CDs for a couple of weeks in the Volvo (which is doing well these days, thanks for asking), I feel like these things are universally good, and if I wouldn’t get a nasty phone call from RIAA nazis for posting these songs on the site for you people to hear, I’d do it. As it is, i guess you’ve just got to either find them yourselves, or get with me somewhere else for a listen. Anyway, heres the playlist for the CDs:
