Press for the Atomic City Education Society!
August 24th, 2006 by Atomictumor
I’d like to thank both the Oak Ridger and the Oak Ridge Observer for putting something in their papers today about the efforts of the ACES and supportoakridgeschools.com.
I’d like very much to put a shout out to Stan Mitchell of the Observer for mentioning the effort in his editorial today. Hell yeah!
I’ve always dismissed the idea that normal people like me and you can change the world, but things like this are proof that you don’t have to be in the system, or a political player, to start making a difference. Come on folks, get yourself a bumper sticker and help us straighten this town out!
Now, today’d be perfect if I hadn’t woken up sick… bleah.

Sick, or hung over?
August 24th, 2006 at 2:40 pm
Sick. After the oldest came down with hand foot and mouth, we’re fairly sure where we stand on this.
August 24th, 2006 at 2:42 pm
Sorry to hear it.
Our daughter has been sick with something like the flu for the past couple days. Not a good way to spend a vacation.
August 24th, 2006 at 3:11 pm
Yeah, that crap’s been going ’round. Actually, what AT has sounds more flu-like than hand foot and mouth like, what with aches and stuff.
It better not be the flu, though, as we have a concert to attend tomorrow night.
August 24th, 2006 at 3:16 pm
Oh no… if it feels like the flu, especially the elephant-sitting-on-your-chest part, go ahead and get to the doc. It sounds like that awful thing I had, and it’s going around.
After seven days on antibiotics and other stuff, I’m finally almost normal again.
August 24th, 2006 at 4:53 pm
Sorry to hear of you sick people. Weak genes I suppose. Some of us decided years ago that there simply is no future in getting sick. Just don’t believe in it.
Get well soon.
August 24th, 2006 at 4:59 pm
BTW, congratulations to you ACES founders. Good stuff guys. Let’s all hope that your hard work will pay big dividends.
To The Oak Ridger and The Oak Ridge Observer….thanks from a humble ACES supporter.

“After seven days on antibiotics and other stuff, I’m finally almost normal again.”
Heh. Well, if it is the flu, antibiotics won’t do you any good. Flu is caused by a virus, and antibiotics don’t affect viruses.
August 24th, 2006 at 6:10 pm
Thanks for the congrats, daco. I’m not sure if any of us expected this thing to get this big!
August 24th, 2006 at 6:21 pm
It wasn’t the flu, Joel… it was bronchitis. Of the bacterial kind. But it felt like the flu with the fever, aches, and such.
August 24th, 2006 at 6:25 pm
Ah, OK. I read “sounds like that awful thing I had” and assumed you were saying that the awful thing you had was the flu.
August 24th, 2006 at 6:34 pm
I’m planning on tackling teh illhness with gusto.
August 24th, 2006 at 6:46 pm
Let your rage push the sick out.
That’s what I do.
August 24th, 2006 at 8:03 pm
That’s the spirit AT. Rush that bug head on and kick bug ass.
August 24th, 2006 at 8:04 pm
GAC, after meeting you a couple of times I can’t imagine you ever experiencing any rage. You seem too laid back for rage.
August 24th, 2006 at 8:12 pm
No, she’s a seether. She can reach hights of rage higher than most people, but she doesn’t really let it out. She beats me when nobody pays attention.
August 24th, 2006 at 8:37 pm
No way man. She’s a sweetheart. Of course, that’s why you married her.
August 24th, 2006 at 9:04 pm
If she beats you, I’m sure its therapeutic.
August 24th, 2006 at 9:12 pm
If she beats him, I’m certain that it is well deserved.
August 24th, 2006 at 10:27 pm
There’s been times when i thought GAC was gonna break me, everyone, and everything else in the room in half… it’s in the eyes. You’ve really got to watch those that are sinister people (viva latin… the former probably spanish, i took latin, i promise, and am sinister myself.). There’s a reason why the romans put our hands into fire. i don’t condone that it was a good idea. did i mention i’m drunk and the beer i drink the most is southpaw? which, by the way, leads me to how i started off this night, with several pints of left hand polestar pilsner. which I found to be extra tasty in several dimensions, including this one. what is the world coming to? the left is trying to assimilate the right. i’ll drift with daft punk’s phoenix… which is really stating “this is messed up”… or variations thereof.

Have I told you, mojo, how much I love your drunken ramblings?
It’s true about us sinister people. We don’t often display our rage, except to those who know what to look for.
Is October the same way, Mrs? I daresay she is.
August 25th, 2006 at 8:57 am
Wait a minute…are you calling my daughter sinister?!
I mentioned once to our pediatric nurse practicioner that October was having some rage issues (smackin’ her little brother around, etc). The CPNP was shocked because October always presents herself as quiet and sweet.
Fortunately, the abovementioned rage issues have appeared to clear up, though she still has a bit of a hot temper.
August 25th, 2006 at 9:02 am
Only in the left-handed sense of the word, Mrs.
August 25th, 2006 at 9:07 am
Mrs, did the fella from the News Sentinel say when his bit would come out?
August 25th, 2006 at 9:10 am
Hmmm…he said he’d be working on it for publication today, but I may have misheard him. Haven’t seen anything yet.
August 25th, 2006 at 9:14 am
Yeah, I would like to have a hard copy of each of the publications. For my voodoun ceremonies.
