"Is that the human condition, to constantly try to overcome the hereditary obstacles (that were created originally to be beneficial, keep in mind) to gain a peace and happiness?

If so, thats weak."

What do you mean, AT? Weak, but how so?

If by peace and happiness, some sort of Barneyesque "the more we get together the closer we'll be" crap is meant, then yeah, that is weak.

No, nothing like that, what I'm referring to is inner peace. A zen mind, being absent from anger, or undue aggression.
However, its dumb as hell if the great struggle of life is to overcome what we developed when we were animals.
Dumb.

I'd say it's not about "being absent from anger", although perhaps "undue aggression" is on target. Course part of the zen thing is that life is characterized by suffering. I don't think there's anything wrong w/ anger-- when it's appropriate. The trick is to feel anger at the right time, in the right way, etc.

I don't think overcoming instinctual proclivities is quite as dumb as you make it out to be, though. I also don't think its the great struggle of life to overcome those same primal urges. But isn't overcoming primal urges the very act of controling them? Isn't that control what sets us apart from the average bear? I'm of the mindset, however, that we cannot completely control those urges, at least not on our own. We lack what it takes to go that extra mile, but there is hope.

As far as middle east borders goes. Most of those (Israel, Iraq) were set much later than the neanderthals. Our enlightened European Grandparents of the early 20th cent did us that favor. Of course they were playing in somebody else's feud that dates back centuries.

Wow, I had no idea Gnarls Barkley was popular. I always thought they were in the popular-on-the-Internet camp, not popular in the real world and actually played on the radio and all that.

Very curious to hear that Of Montreal cover.

Well, actually, I'm only guessing they're popular on the radio. I haven't turned on anything but the occasional NPR or bluegrass station in years, and thats only when I've had all my CDs stolen by GAC.
Bos, I'm not really jumping on the anger thing because we beat it down here. I really don't have anything new to say regarding anger, duder.

Yeah, all those high school kids at the Of Montreal show sure knew Gnarls Barkley. I dunno if it was just that one song they knew or what.
Damn good cover.
