Litterbugs

September 17th, 2006 by The Bosphorus

I was outside just now, getting ready for the big get together later today, when I heard this flat crashing sound come from behind me. It sounded just like a bag of trash hitting the ground. So when I turned around there was a Wendy’s bag busted across the drive way. I’m going out there as soon as I finish this post to clean the mess up.

Last week we went up to Cedar Hill Park so the kids could run around a bit. I’ve always sworn by that park, even when some other Tumorites disparaged it. No, Cedar Hill is good, I’d say, because it’s got big Oak trees and a small field. It’s got a castle sized play structure. Wow.

Then about a year ago I found a condom. Yep.

Used.

Broken glass, too.

But I didn’t give up on Cedar Hill until last week. That was when we found two condoms, wrappers and an assortment of trash. This is disgusting.

Highland View is now my park of choice.

There are always bad eggs the ruin things. I don’t have a problem with the public sex and good for them they’re having protected relations but the littering is pretty disgusting. There is a park here called Poet Seat tower and you can’t go there certain times of day without fear of running into some “public displays.”

LOL meice. I have to agree though, littering is a big problem here in Oak Ridge. When the drugs are pumping and the traffic flows down the street, cars throw stuff out the windows all night. We have found wallets, keys, and cell phones, fast food refuse, beer bottles and more.

I took my kids to the skate park the other day. There must have been 15 different kids there in the time I was there. When I left I went through and picked up over 15 cans or bottles from drinks that the kids left. There are garbage cans everywhere there, I didn’t get it other than they are lazy kids. I was taught not to litter and I teach my children not to litter. I guess some parents don’t.

But what AT says about the condoms concerns me. There is also a lot of prostitution here too. Teenagers having sex and using condoms shows some thinking but the job isn’t finished until the wrapper is in the garbage. Either way PDA doesn’t belong around places our children play.

There was a play fort in Norris that put the one at Cedar Hill to shame. It was totally constructed of wood, save for the slides, and was burried a little ways back in the woods, so it was nice and dark and shady.
One day when I was there with some friends, we saw some high school kids having sex. Nice.
Apparently, the sex and drug use got so bad that they tore the whole damn playground down.
The littering on our end of town isn’t as bad as some places, but Oak Ridge is pretty trashy.
So Bos, it was the middle of the day when the Wendy’s bag hit your yard?

Yeah, it was the middle of the day. The bag ended up containing some fries as well as some packaging from Long John Silver’s. The LJS package spilled little fried crunchies all over the driveway - you should have seen the freckles of grease on the blacktop! It was nasty, and makes me very glad that I haven’t eaten there in a longggggggggggg time.

I can’t say that I think public sex is an acceptable thing. While I do agree that protected is the way to go, it doesn’t make better the fact that you’re doing a very private act in a very public place. It’s just insult to injury that it’s a kids’ playground. The very thought of one of my kids coming across a used condom and picking it up out of curiosity makes me sick to my stomach.

I’m with Bos, I’m sticking to Highland View from now on.

Were the fries still warm? Free food is awesome.
