IDB rescinds gym’s tax abatement
October 4th, 2006 by Atomictumor
Following up on a heroically dumb move, the Oak Ridge Industrial Development Board rescinded their 5-4 vote to allow 10 years of tax deferments to a gym that had already built a location and opened up in Oak Ridge.Â
As Netmom, and everybody else has pointed out, the gym, run by National Fitness Center outside of Oak Ridge was partially responsible for driving out a local business, Paragon, which had been in town for years. NFC is now competing with the Rush for the massive Oak Ridge gym market.
Look, this town was barely sustaining one gym. Why the hell would you want to attract more? We’re not out of the woods yet, tho, as the IDB intends to re-vote on the issue on October 16th, so we’ll see what happens then.
Meanwhile, the Oak Ridge Mall is still empty and standing.

I wonder if they would let me ride a bike in the mall…
