OK, now I know there are probably a billion differences between the situation causing a fire at a hazardous waste facility in Apex, NC, and the way that Oak Ridge stores similar waste, but I can’t help but look at the goings on in Apex and wonder.

Seems to me that whats happening there could easily happen here.
Just a little bit of early morning fearmongering.

What direction do the prevailing winds blow in OR?

“Prevailing winds are either up-valley (northeasterly) daytime winds or down-valley (southwesterly) nighttime winds.”

The way that the local DOE sites store their waste is usually much different than the way commercial sites store(although they are bound by similar laws) However, any lcitizen has a right to be concerned when there is a hazardous facility in their neighborhood. The people that live in Hendrix Creek do not seem to care that there is a Radiolgical and Hazardous waste processing facility in their back yard. This is the same facility that caught fire in 1993, and the main roads were temporarily blocked off. According to plant officals, there was no release of contamination during this incident.
