Dullsville

October 20th, 2006 by Atomictumor

Man, things have gotten boring in Oak Ridge.  Seemed like back in the summer I didn’t have enough time to write about stuff going on around here, but nothings a-going now.

Updates on stuff:

Monty Koons thing: Yeah, we haven’t heard about that in a while.  Word around the campfire, tho, is that he asked his assistant to apply for his job, figuring that he won’t be in it much more.  Unfortunately, as is so often about the campfire, you hear things that may mean squat.  Anyhow, this probably isn’t (unfortunately) over.

We’ll see.  We’ve had people stopping by here recently touting both sides of the story, that he was a great teacher who wouldn’t do this kinda stuff, and that he was a perv.  My opinion of him is based solely on the letter to the editor he wrote denouncing Stuart and Agle in the Observer in the fall, which seems to me that he’s either

a) sucking up to Beauchamp and his family (for whatever reason)
b) A sap

But, I don’t know the guy, and this stuff probably doesn’t have anything to do with the case at hand.  Thats it.

Beauchamp:  Whats up with his anti-blogger lawsuit?  He’s still a dick for dropping a libel lawsuit on a website with public documents.

However, his probation days are over, although he still holds the buildings and grounds position (although he has a John that mows the yard).

Court moving from Oak Ridge to Clinton: Netmom is all worked up on this, but I can’t really bring myself to give much of a crap.  The court room in Oak Ridge is really, really crappy.  I was there for my speeding ticket a few months ago, and was floored by the crummy fake wood vineer all scratched up, the stained carpet, and the general gloom of the place.

Notwithstanding the fact that the only security there is the baliff that looks a lot like Bull from Night Court, and I can see where Murch is coming from.  Sorry NM, I’m just not with you.

Election 06: Is still for suckers.  The Observer had a nice list of endorsements which completely matched mine, with the exception that while I was leaning for Corker, technically my endorsement is to write in a candidate.  They seem to have hope, tho, that Corker will be a principled candidate who will not cling to party coattails in Washington.  That’d be great, and he seems like the type of guy who’d have those kind of principals, but dammit, I’ve been burned by the Republican Party too much in the past 7 years to want to hand those bastards a seat.

Bring it on people.  What do you say?

Beauchamp: the John or Jane Doe lawsuit was dropped Aug. 15. No other suit has been filed — it was just a press release. Meanwhile, his attorney (Mike Ritter) was indicted by the Grand Jury a few weeks ago on the DUI incident last May.

My objection to moving the court is mainly that it’s one more example of the County increasing costs for Oak Ridge, while decreasing the services provided. Sure, our courtroom is hardly an example of stunning architecture and design… but exactly how much tax money do you want to put into the marble and teak for a place that you (hopefully) won’t spend much time? If the County thinks the court needs better security or more space, then shouldn’t they pay for the improvements?

Election 06: it is what it is. Vote anyway. I tried to yesterday, but after waiting while they rebooted the laptop where you sign in about three times (five or six people ahead of me in line), I had to leave for another appointment. I’ll go back today and try again. Gotta love early voting!

Well, I got to wondering if Corker is a big moma’s boy with all his
original ADS talking all the good that her son had done for Chattanooga.

I liked the add where they said that they still had the same property taxes
as in the 1950’s. Just think a few years ago Oak Ridge was second in the State
next to Memphis. No one ever talks about this but sure hand out $1,000,000
    tax abatements.

I like the attitude that FORDs Vote really made a difference —its almost
    like Duncan’s WAR Vote.

It is sad FORD has Bredesen to talk about all his good deads.

Well, it shows Corker has no Balls. Why didn’t the Republicans ask Bredesen to do an add with them he is their Govenor, too. Isn’t it funny how republicans and democrats treat each other like they have veneral disease.

But one sure thing; Corker is sure no FRIST.

Hope No One has a Heart Attack— Wonder how Quick Corker can Holler—”Is There a Doctor in the House”.

Ok, I have to admit I’ve been willfully ignorant about the court thing. Does the courtroom in OR service all of Anderson county? Is this court for specific types of crime? Clue me in, here, I don’t know what’s going on.

There are two General Sessions courts: one in Clinton (Don Layton, Division I) and one in Oak Ridge (Ron Murch, Division II). They hear things like misdemeanor criminal offenses, probation monitoring, orders of protection, and minor civil suits (under $25k).

I think they try to hear cases in the jurisdiction nearest the case, so Oak Ridge police most often deal with Murch’s court for misdemeanor cases. With orders of protection or civil matters, I think people have the option to file with whichever court is most convenient to them.

For some time now though, Lake City police have brought cases to the Oak Ridge sessions court, because they don’t like Layton, so I guess the police departments get to choose where they want to go.
