Man, that'd be so cool to have decent shopping within walking (or biking) distance. I'm a big fan of towns that can pull that off.

Grove center was certainly well-occupied back in the '60s. I lived on the opposite end of town, but I can recall a White Stores (my mom said they had the only good chicken in town), a hardware store, a bowling alley and a movie theater.

Of course, I also recall a bustling, active downtown with desireable department stores, a great bakery, an A&P (grocery), a pretty good bookstore, a good music store, a bank, and lots of other stuff. Every storefront was occupied back then, and the sidewalk was crowded on most weekends. It was hard to find a parking spot on the last couple of weekends before Christmas. Of course, folks didn't go into Knoxville so much back then--the roads weren't that great.

Sorry for the geezing.

Tank, I thought long and hard about coming over and getting onto you about standing us up at our party.
But then I had a beer. :)

Yeah, GAC mentioned that she saw you, but I didn't have her point you out to me. I'm sorry that I didn't introduce myself...but I didn't know it was you! Thanks for the kind words.

You probably saw my son singing in Sound Company while you were there - I think they sang about 9am...can't remember (I was out of town).

From what I hear they're renovating the theatres in the Grove Theatre (current home of the Church of High Places) to create "the best show venue in town". We'll see. I'm hoping so...
