Mommy is as mommy does, so I vote that you are in the club, uterus or no! You may have to fake being cranky and craving chocolate-covered salt once a month, though...think you can handle that??

Oh, we were talking about a uterus. That might take until 4pm.

Hi AT

I am one of those who came from a 'mommy blog' link although I am not a real mommy blogger. Amalah, an internet superstar, had you linked and once I read (back on day 3 or 4) I was so touched I was hooked. I hoped and hoped with you now I can’t leave the story even if that chapter is done. I never commented before because I would have basically been a “me too” but since you asked about the traffic I though you should get an explanation. Mommy bloggers are (generally) a companionate bunch, they will rally behind you and defend you refresh your page often. Mommies are mostly people who care about other people and so far my procreation score is zero I care how you and your boys do. So take advantage of the new audience and ask any mommy questions you have and the huge internet full of mom’s will help you out.

I'm right there with Kate. I came to you via BusyMom and I am also hooked. I found myself coming back to the site 3 and 4 times daily to keep up with you. I've laughed and cried with you (as many have) and I feel blessed to have met you, AT, and your family.

Ask us anything you need to - we're not shy!!

God, I hope I don't have to grow a uterus. I'm already "having that time of the month" according to my wife. BTW, I'm gonna be linking to your post about Advent. Awesome stuff there, AT.

I don't remember HOW I got here! It was just today though, and I've read back to the beginnings of GAC's sudden illness. Then I proceeded to drive in a veritable snow storm, to pick up my children from school, while calling my husband and telling him how much I loved him and how when he was busy being away in November that BJ got sick, and how I'm glad he's not sick and how much I appreciate him, and he told me to stop talking on the phone, while driving in the weather before he was a single parent as well. I promise to take away from your story to never, ever, for a moment, take my good luck/fortune as a spouse and mom for granted and if tragedy ever touches my life as it has yours, I pray I have the strength and dignity to live through it as you have. And as far as joining the mommy blogging world? Please, please, just don't wax anything. Stay hairy.

Well, quite frankly, your story scares the hell out of us mommybloggers, even when we cringe at the word, because it pretty much strikes at the heart of what it is we're blogging about (and, therefore, living for) in the first place.

Reality bites... and somehow we just have to bite back, in whatever way we can.

Interesting...well, I came here via a gay blogger, not a mommy blogger. But, as has been (more than adequately) documented, the mommy blogs are a powerful force, so I'm not surprised they've sent so many your way!

p.s.
Joel: I love the word "surfeit."
Allisone: I love The Big Lebowski.

Ya know... upon reflection, I have absolutely no idea what I meant by "Reality bites… and somehow we just have to bite back, in whatever way we can." One too many two-drink-minimum lunches, I guess.

The point I was trying to make is that this site proves to us that somehow the world would go on without us. Which is horrible and great.

And now I'm done being unintentionally cryptic and will go make yet another batch of mac 'n' cheese.

You told a tragic story in a compelling way.
I'm a mom and I blog. I found you a couple of days after BJ got sick and I kept coming back because of your honesty. I wish I'd known her.....and you under different circumstances.

I came from Amalah, too. My kids are older than most mommyblogger's, but I still read a couple of them. Funny is funny, good writing is good writing and parenting is a roller-coaster for all of us. I'll offerup my favorite of the daddyblogs for your perusal: MetroDad.

Another mama-blogger here! Let me know when you are feeling a little crampy and need some chunky monkey ice cream!

I also think that mothers have that nurturing nature about them - perhaps some of us mamas just want to take care of others in need. And now, that is you. Pass the ice cream!

Take good care.

Oh yes.........us women love to TAKE CARE of everyone in need.
You're an honorary member of any women's group now. You're a mommy and a daddy. I gave my dad a mom's day card every year since my mother's passing when I was 12. I never asked him if he started getting cranky at the same time every month. IT COULD HAPPEN.

I've been reading since BJ got sick and like the others, come back frequently to check in on you and the boys. I have 4 kids and can't even imagine going through what you have. Your in our hearts, AT.

Guilty as charged. Courtesy of Amalah.

Seriously - some of the very best writing out there is done by mommybloggers - who, contrary to the term, blog about way, way more than kids.

Daddybloggers aren't far behind - try Dadcentric.com. There's a roundup of them there.

You can add me to the daddy blogger list. Assuming, that is, that you define daddy bloggers as dads that blog and that their kids are often the topic.

We are out there, you just have to look a bit harder. We often seem to run stealthy in the Mommy Blogger space. We seem mostly to be accepted. It is a good place.

There is also:
William of PoopAndBoogies.blogspot.com
Darren at http://claresdad.blogspot.com/index.html

I found my way here thru a site I now cannot name... I aspire to be both a mommy and a blogger, but right now I am neither. I am a Ph.D. student and a wife. AT, thank you for sharing your story. I had to "previous page" way back as I just found this, so I read your story over the course of two late nights. I hope this isn't insensitive, but your writing is captivating and interesting and so so good to read. I study mass communication, and I only hope I can teach my students to write anything a fraction as good as yours. Your talent as a writer has been shown thru this hard time. You and your boys will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you again for letting us in on your talent.
