TDOT on the work

December 21st, 2006 by Atomictumor

Did I mention that I acquired the nickname “TDOT” from BJ, on account of my incessant need to “improve” the technology situation in the house?

It was when I was putting together our home entertainment system (our *MIGHTY* home entertainment system) that BJ coined the nickname, with her irritation that I frequently had everything down while I was upgrading it, either by wiring a more sensible way, or installing new hardware.  The beauty of the system is that it was done on a sub-shoestring budget, with all of like 7 dollars applied (plus stolen coax cable, but thats another story), and now is a home entertainment system for the ages, capable of showing any digized media, whether on cable, hard drive, CD, DVD, whathaveya, in both the living room and the bedroom WITHOUT a bunch of cables running all over hell’s half acre, which has been the hallmark of my technological prowess in the past.

Anyway, the TDOT thing is in full on swing on the lappy this weekend, when boredom, mixed with nothing better to do, mixed with a lack of wife yelling at me for tinkering with stuff, has had me working on it.

And this is the desktop now.  Bask in the awesome.

Ahh yes, I have embraced the Google.  Bos is wringing his hands in fear that Google is getting their beautiful, silvery tendrils of sugar coated mind control around me, but I care not.

On the left, the fully stocked Google Sidebar.  On the top is my Google Calendar, where they know everything that I have planned, such as meetings with bosses, bills, and TV shows.

On the right, YZdock, as described in one of the links up above.  I have added the most used software on it, and removed the ugly and unnecessary reminders of Windows domination on this computer by editing the registry to remove all desktop items.  Thats right, I can save it to the desktop, but that bad boy ain’t showing up.

In the middle, and obscured by the toolbars somewhat (they retract when I’m not using them, but I pulled em out for purposes of this picture) is DesktopEarth, suggested to me by good ol’ Mojofilter, and set to constantly stay on the sunset.  I’m watching the world spin in what I can fool myself into thinking is real time, woot.

Yes, Virginia, woot.

    I
    Love
    Google.
I love Google as though it were one of my children, the one with eight PhDs and speaks 37 languages.
And when my son saw NB with his ‘hawk in the Brady Bunch homage, he insisted on a haircut. I’ll email you the picture.
