Yesterday, on the way home from picking him up, MastaG displayed a mastery of the lyrics in David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust masterpiece “Five Years”.
Today, he informed me that he wanted some Velvet Underground on his iPod.
I nominate him, officially, for coolest 10 year old.

I second the nomination.

You know he is only - as is — cool as his father for exposing his young bright mind to the very foundation of rock culture.

I third that nomination.
I often find myself dragging out that album (okay, CD) and it is a fine piece of work.

That’s pretty awesome, G. For real.
I think he may need his own stereo, or at least a boombox, before long.

Well Hell Yeah.
Go G.

Fourthed! Next thing you know, he’s going to be bugging you for some Harry Nilsson action — maybe some of the cool stuff he put out in the incredible soundtrack of the absolutely horrible movie he made with Ringo Starr, or he might even start asking about John Lennon’s lost weekend with Harry…

Dang. Here I am playing The Decemberists and Umphrey’s McGee and Sometymes Why and what does my 9 year old daughter want to listen to? Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson. She does like the stuff I play (and I generally like her pop music), but she’s not exactly clamoring for the latest Radiohead. Though I’m not in any hurry for any of mine to grow up, so it’s refreshing to me, actually, that she likes the latest Gwen Stefani.

I’m so impressed. I love Ziggy Startdust and Spiders from Mars.
