TV Tonight

January 23rd, 2007 by The Bosphorus

Looking forward to watching the first episode of Firefly. A co-worker loaned the complete series to me while I’m off on paternity leave. I first heard about Firefly over at Reality Me and was intrigued by the concept. A western/ sci-fi, who would have thought, but it works.

As an aside, I’m not at all interested in the State of the Union Address, but I’ll watch it anyway.

Firefly is SO much better than the SOTU.

Have you seen Serenity? It picks up a few months after the series leaves off (so you might wanna see the series before the movie, if you haven’t already)

I posted a link to the SOTU drinking game, if you are willing to go ahead and watch it…

Back when you were still haploid, bos, this was already tried:

As a viewer at the time, I assure you that it worked very well.

oh god - we are HUGE firefly fans. it’s the most awesome series - stick with it. the first episode is a little rough with the acting and such, but it turns into an awesome series. stupid fox screwed the series over by putting it on fridays at 9pm, then airing only 7 or 8 episodes out of order. god, it will be so good to have someone else to discuss this series with. enjoy! let us know what you think!

Love that show. Enjoy it. Serenity ain’t half bad either.

On a side note, anyone else watching Battlestar Galactica?

Heh heh … another Browncoat in the making! Let me know when you want to see Serenity … I have it, along with the DVD season set up here. And some books. And a Jayne Cobb hat … Shiny!

Dude, this is an awesome series. Don’t forget to watch the movie — Serenity.

I guess I’m in the minority here. I rented the series through Netflix. I don’t think I even made it through three episodes.

Love it! One of the few shows I made sure to watch on a weekly basis (Mythbusters and Eureka are the only others to be given that honor).

See, I must admit, BJ and I didn’t make it through the first episode, and eventually deleted it from the computer to save space.
    Sigh.
I guess I need to try it again. I’ve never heard anybody tell me it does anything but kick ass.

My wife doesn’t even like sci-fi and really enjoyed Firefly. Go ahead and plan on renting Serenity afterward because it wraps everything up from where it was so rudely interrupted. Someone told me Firefly was based on the anime Cowboy Bebop. (http://www.sonypictures.com/cthe/cowboybebop/)

I rented Serenity a month ago and liked it quite a bit. It is good entertaining fun.

I haven’t run across any connections w/ Cowboy Bebop, though. What caught my interest at first was the connection between Firefly and the book the Killer Angels. Evidently served as inspiration for Joss Whedon who created the Firefly series.

  13. Atomictumor Says:

    Love me some Cowboy Bebop.

Firefly is awesome, awesome, awesome. I didn’t watch it until after it was canceled (I saw it on DVD so at least the episodes were in order) and I just couldn’t believe it was canceled. The first episode was rough but I promise, it gets better!

I gotta add my vote to the “loved it” category, though some of the acting is sort of bad, and ALL the Chinese is REALLY bad. But who would notice, right? For most people it might as well be Klingon. I got some laughs and chuckles though. Yeah, it has problems. But it also has the quality that a good comic-book has, the sense that you’re never quite sure what’s going to happen the next minute.

If you have trouble getting into it, trying watching the movie first instead?

  16. Zapaper Says:

Ha, it never occurred to me that there was a connection between CBebop and FF. But now that I think about it, I can totally see it.

  17. Joe P. Says:

Thought there were many similarities between BeBop and Firefly. Both are shows I can watch at anytime and be muchly pleased.

The Serenity movie nicely finishes up the storylines of Firefly (with one or two mysteries remaining, especially with that preacher-man.)

And Serenity made the last 2 Star Wars movies look like crap. I’m a bona-fide Whedon-maniac, yeah.
