So, word around the campfire is that Oak Ridge and Target are looking to be BFFs, as long as the town can work up about 10 million clams to fix up Pine Ridge, which is currently a big hill, a sign, and like, some buildings or something out on Illinois Ave.
This registers a hell yes. In fact, on the Atomictumor Hell Yeah-O-Meter, this comes in as a solid Keitel.
A Target in Oak Ridge, alone, is an awesome thing, but the forward momentum in getting decent quality shopping in the town would go a long way toward alleviating the damage done by that Arnsdorff and his little mall meltdown.
Provided that we can ensure that development of this thing will be prompt and on schedule, done by a group with the maturity level necessary in working business transactions like a grown-up, this will be wicked awesome. I full on and 100% get right on behind approving the money and whatnot to develop this bad boy.
Beyond that, I also have sent instructions to my legions of Atomictumor automaton puppets (Atomictumatons) installed in various positions throughout the town to lend full support and grease all palms necessary.
Seriously, tho, I’ve long complained that this town is stagnating. Sure, we’re getting housing, and sure, the industrial/federal complex is in full on mode, but for any kind of decent shopping, we have to bust it on down to Knoxville. A Target opening up in town would also pave the way for a better class of shops (shoppes) to anchor to the beast, and take all of my money.
Particularly a SuperTarget, because, man, Food City sucks.
I am Atomictumor, and I have approved this message.

I love Target!

We have not 1, not 2, but 3 Targets within a 10-15 mile radius. (With respective Wal-Marts on opposing sides of streets.)
Coincidentally, there are also 3 Shop-aholic Anonymous groups in the region.
Take this as a warning.

Good to know you’re on board with this. It IS a risk, but one that I think would be worthwhile in the long run. I’ve heard that the City might build in some time constraints, like they get portions of the 10 mil only as they complete milestones or percentages. That sounds like a “grown-up” way to do things to me.
Actually, I think it will be worthwhile as soon as it opens in a couple of years or so. I’ve heard that the City might

I sure hope so. When I was bartending in OR, there was a rumor going around that Target, Cracker Barrel, and Outback were bidding on the spot where Outback is now. Not sure how true that was but the buzz about Target coming has been on and off for years. I hear more of it now so my fingers are crossed!

Target is heavenly. I’ll cross my fingers for ya that you get one. I love the “dollar spot.”

Where is Pine Ridge?

I heart Target…not as much as Busy Mom, but still, I heart it.
January 24th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Well, yeah, I think Busy Mom appears wherever a Target is.

I luuuuuuurve Target (Tarjay Booteek, actually) but it’s like crack. “Oh, just need to run to Target.” “They’ll have that at Target.” “Let’s go see if they have anything new down at Target.” The store is addicting. I think the infinitesimal part of our income that is disposable goes directly into Target’s coffers.

I believe Pine Ridge is the bald spot they recently leveled on top of the hill that overlooks y-12. (Between S Illinois and Scarboro Rd.)
Loved getting Outback in- its brought a well needed change.
They’re also building the hotel behind there, so that might aid in more people coming to the area (via online registration if they have it setup.)
A Target would be nice, super or not, to keep from having to drive a long ways away to get something.
New to your site: found it a few days ago while looking for information on this development. :)

Are you trying to tell us something, AT? The disclaimer at the end of your post reads vaguely like a political disclaimer. Political junkie or punk rock star?
Tough call.

Sugar, I transcend politics. I am Atomictumor.
Hee. If you’re gonna have delusions, make em ones of grandeur…

Do you give lessons in transcending politics? I need ‘em.

I think it’s those Target commercials — we’re all being brainwashed.
Love your blog, AT.
