Verizon is fixin to give me a stroke

OK, so I got my bad ass phone, yes. I also signed up for a years service with Verizon to get the thing, with a 20% employee discount on account of working for a company that finangled a 20% employee discount with Verizon, so I got a reduced price on the phone and the service.
Good deal, right?
Yeah, I thought so too. Until I got the ‘welcome’ thing in the mail a few days after getting and activating the phone, which had my contract end date as 1/2009. “Hmm,” I thought “I’m not a mathematician, but that looks like a two year contract.” I’m not necessarily adverse to a two year contract, but if thats what I get, I should have the two year discount on the phone, and shouldn’t have paid the activation fee, because thats what it says all big and black on the website I ordered the stuff through.
So, I sent em an email. I said something to the effect of:
“Hey guy, there appears to be a problem with my dealy. I believe that you’re either short a year, or short about a hundred bucks. Go ahead and get with your people, and then straighten me out, and then I’ll continue going around happy”
And they replied (this is all paraphasing now):
“No.“
Well, thats a pisser. So I took a screenshot of the website showing the price I paid as the 1 yr contract price, and a price significantly lower as the two year, and replied suggesting that perhaps they rethink the issue.
My response:
“You’re dumb. No.“
Yeah, they told me that it clearly states that 249 is the two year price. I opened up the screenshot again, just to make sure that the moonshine hasn’t dulled my senses, and no, it seems to be agreeing with my original point. This was at 6 AM this morning, and my blood pressure started to rise. That right eye started to twitch. I started turning into the Hulk.
So, I called em, and talked to a sweet girl named Margaret. She told me theres nothing she can do, that I should talk to the point of contact with the employer.
So, I sent him an email today.
Now, this is my problem. By rights, I should cancel the contract, curse their mothers name, and set fire to the phone. However, I really like the phone, and the monthly bill likes that 20% discount. I hear good things, otherwise, about Verizon, so I’m holding off for now.
But damn. I hate hate hate dealing with companies. Corporations are the American evil.
Discuss amongst yourselves. I need to find some gasoline and a match, just in case…

First comment, WOOT!
I love verizon. I’ve had them for close to 10 years. They rock!
If your point of contact can’t help you I’d call back again and speak to someone different. Seems to me that they could at least adjust your contract back down to 1yr

Verizon as corporation sucks big, fat, hairy, monkey balls. Suffice it to say, husband received a bluetooth earpiece dealy for his phone for x-mas. Turns out it was not the one he wanted. Since we are not the return immediately types (better things to do like playing PC online games) we recently went to a Verizon kiosk in one of those big box retailers…they don’t carry the one he wanted, and even though we have the receipt, package not opened, etc the manager had no leeway to resolve our return. Since we do not have the exact credit card on which it was purchased (*hello, it was a gift!*), even though we do have a card on the same account but with different last 4 digits, they cannot put a credit on the card; and since it is outside of the normal return period (15 freaking days) the computer system will not let them submit the paperwork for a refund check which would still take 8-12 weeks to process. So, now we have to get it back to the person who did the giving and they have to do the return thing. What a huge fricking pain in the ass! My sympathies for your situation.

What bothers me most about these cell phone companies is that they give NEW customers the best deals while they treat people who have been faithful, on-time-bill-paying customers like shit. Hate ‘em!

Fight for your rights, my man! We have Verizon Wireless, too. For both business & personal. I had alot of problems at first, had to watch bills closely for charges that were included in contract, etc. So I called *611, and called, and called everytime I got a bill then called again. I have to say that overall they resolved every single issue in our favor and once the kinks were worked out I have nothing but love for Verizon.

Cable companies are famous for treating new customers way better than old ones too.
That’s not nice!!
Dear Mr. Hulk,
I hope you did not rip your shirt and pants. After what you did to your brown suede pants you must be getting low in the wardrobe department.
I don’t think the world is ready for Naked Jake!

Well, I’m still waiting for a response from the office point of contact, so we’ll see what happens.

Huh … and here I thought no one could be as bad as Sprint.
At least they give you a $25 credit whenever they screw up … and they have screwed up my bill and/or service to the tune of $150 in the last 6 months!
But I know the rage, man …

Sounds like you need eff their shit up Joe Pesci style. It’s not pretty, but you’ll get what you need.
BTW, the category for this had me rolling.

Don’t let em do you like that, AT!! Take it to the streets, man!!
Seriously though, as far as service area and call quality, Verizon seems to be at the top. We had to switch when we moved out here to the Poconos. We live out in the middle of nowhere and Verizon is the only company that gets a signal out here. For customer service problems like yours they really seem to suck though. We’ve had some issues as well. I still haven’t figured out how far up the chain you have to go to get something fixed. Although when I call customer service at least I don’t get someone in India (yet!) like I did with Sprint.
I think you’ve got the lesser of all the evils in Verizon. Good Luck!

US Cellular is the shit son. We have been with them 4 yrs and had nothing but A+ service and hardly no dropped call. Not to mention 4 lines for 130 a month with taxes and everything.

I had issues with Verizon when I first got them, so much so that I found the CEO’s name and searched yahoo and found his home address and sent a nice little certified letter to his home. His wife signed for it. It still took them 2 weeks to call me but the fixed my stuff. Good luck.
