The things we hold dear

February 21st, 2007 by Mrs Eaves

Bos left for work this morning with Wingnut’s favorite pacifier in his coat pocket. We have a back-up here at the house, but it’s not quite the same. The other backup - me - seems to be his preference right now.

It reminds me of when Lugnut was a baby. He never took to a passy, but nursed every hour or so for the first six months. Phew.

Wing had his 1-month checkup this morning. All is well - he’s up to 10 lbs., 4 oz. & 22″ long. Poor little chap had to submit to a nasty RSV test - a long swab up the nose - because he was exhibiting a few cold symptoms and our CPNP wanted to play it safe. Lugnut had RSV as an infant, and while it didn’t get nearly as bad as it could have, it can be a terrible illness for newborns.  Wing’s test came back negative, fortunately.

On a completely different note, did anyone do anything fun for Mardi Gras yesterday?

Isn’t it amazing… the terror that runs up and down your spine when the paci is lost?

If it is not a paci it is something else like a routine. W does not like when her bedtime routine is interrupted or changed. It is the same every night. Every Hour or so???!! I am not a gal but didn’t that like — hurt? I am convinced that if a new born is given half a chance that they could affix themselves to a window with pure sucking power. W tried to latch on to me and it was no manner of comfort associated with it when it happened!! We close on the house friday morning. Everything is a go. I hope that James is humbly looking at the floor for taking the sacred paci. I sure that when he found out that he had it waves of terror when over him.

Oh Mrs. Eaves thanks so much for the RSV info. It truly is a public service announcement. My bestie’s son is 5 weeks old and has been to the doc twice in the past 7 days for cold-like symptoms. He was placed on antibiotics & nebulizer (asthma machine) treatments a few days ago, even though the doc conceded that this treatment is very rare & reserved for only the worst case infants.
Literally, while I was reading the post Bestie called to ask my opinion as he’s not getting better and she notices his softspot appears very sunk in. Don’t know if it’s true or not, but I was always told that was a sign of dehydration. I asked her if he’d been checked for RSV, she said no-thought only preemies got it (not true) so I read to her straight from the link. She’s immediately calling the on-call doc and will be referencing this info w/her other questions.

Thanks again. I don’t even have babies anymore and the info came in handy.

He’s such a beautiful baby; enjoy this time. It’s gone so quickly.

OK, I’ll say it, thats a creepy ass picture…

You’re just saying that ’cause you’re drunk, AT.

VA Bluebelle - I’m really glad that the link was useful. I’m really surprised that the doc didn’t test for RSV - especially since it was necessary to have the nebulizer treatments. I hope that the little guy gets better very quickly!

Timsan1 - Bos brought me home a king-size KitKat. All is good.

  7. Atomictumor Says:

    Hey, I want some KitKat.

  8. The Bosphorus Says:

Jeez, I didn’t even notice I had the paci in my coat pocket till this evening when I stopped for gas.

    The KitKat is gone now.

  9. timsan1 Says:

If all things were smoothed over by a chocolatly good kitkat. What a world we would live in. I wonder if we could give Iran a kitkat . . .

  10. Atomictumor Says:

Bos, you better have enough KitKat for everybody.

  11. VA Bluebelle Says:

Mrs. Eaves, I didn’t want to pass judgment on her doctor but I was surprised too. All of her kids (baby makes 5) have asthma and the nebulizer has been parked on their kitchen table for years so maybe he just assumed?

    Bos,

Just for making me relive the horror of a lost paci…(Oh the flashbacks!!)…

Either a Snickers bar or a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup please!!
