They do need the money, the gov. isn't putting out like it used to, and they have to pay big bucks for some of the most popular programs. I didn't check the schedule at your station, but the BBC comedies on Friday nights at my moms station are at the top of the money makers during the fund drive (Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, Keeping Up Appearances, etc). Give them some money during Sesame Street (or whichever cartoons your daughter watches) and grin and bear it through the rest. But seriously, they rake in the money on these broadcasts. It must be sentimentality. Most of the contributors are of an advanced age. We got practically zero calls when they did a Neil Young concert. And trust me, we got lots of pissy calls from your ilk as well. Hee.
