Work Weirdness

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

“Why is there an empty trash bag on my desk?” says a co-worker. “And where did my trash can go?”

“Ummm, I don’t know,” I say.

A few minutes later another co-worker hollers from off in library, “Hey, why is there a trash can half-full of water sitting on a table out here?”

Oh, great I think to myself. We’ve got a leak.

I finish what I’m doing and go out to the children’s area. Sure enough there’s a blue trash can sitting up on the table.

“We found your trash can!” I yell back.

The trash can has about half a gallon of water standing in the bottom of it. I climb up onto the table and look up at the ceiling. There’s no sign of water damage. The ceiling tiles are dry. The kite hanging from the ceiling is dry. There’s just the bucket of water on the table.

I smell the water. It doesn’t stink. It just seems like regular old water.

“I don’t know what’s up with this,” I say. “Let’s just pour it down the drain and forget about it.”

When I flush it, it bubbles just a little bit. Sure enough what’s left in the bottom smells like cleaner.

The cleaning crew must have left it out over night. I have no idea why they used a trash can to hold cleaner and then left it in the middle of a room full of books.

I just don’t know.

Holy crap, things are working out for the schools

Looks like Oak Ridge is moving in the right direction to fund the school system, approving at first reading a 10 cent property tax increase.

It’d sure be cool if there were some sales tax revenue in this backwards little town so homeowners wouldn’t have to shoulder all of the burden, but still, its one I’m completely willing to shoulder if it means keeping up the quality of the school system.  I’m of the opinion that if that isn’t one of your priorities, there are plenty of other towns out there that would agree with you.

Netmom had a great liveblog of the meeting last night.
