My experience (as a planner) has been that companies will locate where they believe they will make the most money, period. Of course it's possible that Aldi backed out because they didn't get a warm and fuzzy welcome from your planning commission, but I doubt it.

You can still shop at Big Lots for the Fellini experience!

GAC and I had dubbed (years ago) the Kenjo market in Grove Center as the 'Fellini gas station'. There was some weird story about this one time she walked in, but she told it better than I do...

Cheap, off-off-off brands of canned, boxed foods stacked against walls. Think of Big Lots, and dollar store food, with a few bags of apples thrown in. Quarter to rent shopping cart, byo bag/boxes.

We got an Aldi here a few weeks ago. I went once. Very, very small, good granola cereal but otherwise boxed macaroni and cheese and potted meat.

from wikipedia:
"Fellini's films are deeply personal visions of society, often portraying people at their most bizarre. The term "Felliniesque" is used to describe any scene in which a hallucinatory image invades an otherwise ordinary situation."

My Aldi experience usually included encounters with tranny shoplifters. Think Janes Addiction 'Been Caught Stealing'.

Been to an Aldi -- it really isn't worth the savings. Some one tried to pick up my pregnant wife at the one in K-town.

there was a corner market we went to when i was a kid called "easy way" and the last aisle was all the generic stuff. i mean white boxes with black print-generic. no color on that aisle what-so-ever. more generic than the kroger cost-cutter's plain yellow boxes back in the day. that's how i picture aldi but i have never been to one. and i guess i won't now.
