Zoo Haiku

September 2nd, 2007 by The Bosphorus

A spontaneous
trip to the zoo this morning.
We beat the hot crowds!

Green caterpillar
dropped onto october’s arm
She slapped, it stung her.

Two Galapagos
did their grunting mating game
while Lug and I watched.

Who knew the rhinos
made screeching noises walking?
No surprise that they stink.

The yellow, brown leaves
rippled the stream; the kids played
beneath the poplar.

    Caterpillars sting?
    Never heard of that before.
    I’ll not tell my niece

    She’s afraid of bugs.
Won’t take out the trash because
    flies even scare her.

    I try not to mind
    but I have little patience
    for her silly fears.

    Labor Day camping
    drifting down the cold river
    on a plastic tube;

    Dog swims beside me
    children laughing, full of joy
    savor summer’s end.

    Autumn creeps slowly
    too soon, bitter winter comes
    I will miss the sun.

    AT’s got it bad
    Even ditched Sunday haiku
    Life takes precedence

    Hey, Suzanne, perhaps
    you may be forgetting we
    write at our pleasure.

    I meant no offense
Sorry it came out that way
    Read last line again
