Damn, that sucks. Not only are you stuck with Vista, but you have to reinstall the damn thing. Yikes.
I've been talking up that whole dell refurbished thing because I had a good experience with it. Maybe I'll stop.
I never had the original storm shadow either. Or snake eyes.
But I did save up points and get the Cobra Moccasin, and it was sweet.

Getting the shipping refunded was worth the effort, I'd think. But Jane's right: you talked mean about it, instead of caressing the power button with wonder and anticipation.

Now, give her some wireless wonder... Ubuntu's free (although I still haven't gotten it to install yet. Alpha says that machine's just too old to even run xUbuntu).

Bos, Bos, Bos, I hope you bought an Intel processor. If not, you are going to have to be extra nice to the machine and to Vista.

The SO uses Ubuntu and will NOT stop talking about it!! He is all pumped up about some linux-based cell phone that is supposed to slap the iPhone into place. I'm an Apple geek, so I doubt that will happen but he is all about this new mystery phone.

Louise might be showing a bit of bias.
I build my computers with nothing but AMD chips. They're cheaper, and they do exactly as well. Some might argue, better, but I can't be arsed to benchmark my computers.

Just to throw another OS option out there: I've heard good things about Freespire.

**************************************
"They're cheaper, and they do exactly as well."

You nailed it on the head AT.
The general consensus seems to be that Intel processors are rated slightly higher (and would presumably run slightly faster), but in all practicality the AMD Athlon64 and the Intel P4 run neck and neck. This has been a topic of fierce, geeky debate in various online-gaming circles (FFXI, WoW, etc.).

I've got ubuntu running on my laptop. More details later. There is a bit of work to get it up and running, but that's fun if you like it.
