A musical selection for Wednesday

AOL music is stupid as stupid gets, but I like this song, and I couldn’t find it elsewhere. SO, if it doesn’t work, f— it.

Boy, that hearkens back to my early, early high school years. Back to when AT was the one with the (comparatively lame but bitchin’ at the time) mohawk, and we pimped around in the Shit Box. The good ol’ days… Crass, Dead Kennedy’s, etc… Who does that remind me of?

Uh, yeah, whatever.

Good times, Jen.
Joel, are you being a douche?

Nah. Just a typical disaffected gen-Xer.

I’m not blogophisticated enough to know where to post this general message to you, AT, but I wanted you to know that your writing — specifically surrounding BJ’s illness and passing — moved me so much. I was still up at 2 a.m. this morning crying my eyes out, not just at the profound sadness of your story but the beauty and the hope and the generosity of you to share all of that with the world. I found your blog by accident when surfing (scaring myself) to find info about MRSA b/c my sister-in-law plans to give me the gift of a pedicure at an Asian salon, don’t want to be ungrateful, blah blah blah my anxiety blah blah. Turns out we have much in common. I grew up in Memphis, went to UT Knoxville 1987-91, did an internship in the marketing department of MMC in Oak Ridge (what a dear group of genuine people), and I’ve been to Big Ed’s, West Town Mall, etc. many many times. We lived in East Nashville and now we live in the burbs in Franklin. What’s more, I’m 38 and my husband is 39….I believe BJ was 28 and you 29? We have been married since 1996, and we have a 10-year-old son (we didn’t waste any time either). Your writing and perspective and coolness factor and your parenting style reminds me so much of my husband’s, and your kids remind me of mine (my daughter is 5, but every bit a cute — plus sassy, in her case — mess as your Juicebox). My husband and I didn’t work on our school yearbooks, but we did work on the newspapers. I’m in PR, he’s a copywriter for Griffin Technology (they make I-pod accessories) here in Nashville.
ANYWAY…..enough about us. Your story really struck a chord with me and your words are beautiful. The stories of you and your boys were heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I’m too old to really use the term “emo,” but I think it’s one of your best features. (are you SURE you’re from East Tennessee? here in the Bible belt I don’t run into people like you very often, and it’s refreshing)
so, I’m not getting that pedicure tonight, but your blog showed me that there are many many more important things in life.
thank you.
Ashley

AOL music does suck, I never can get it to work. However, it worked here so you must be ’special’ (and I mean that in the kindest way, hee hee). The song, ehhh. I am too old to appreciate it I guess!

I kind of liked the attempt at Yodelling, but……….

Wow Ashley. I loved your comment. I have felt the same way about AT myself, but I don’t want him to get the big head. I kinda think you’re a freak about the pedicure though. What’s a little MRSA amoung friends anyway!
