Back to Oak Ridge

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Man, Secret City Festivals, mayor elections, and all sorts of stuff happened while I was away.  We got home and the fish were happy to see us (didn’t I mention that Syrup now shares a tank with Mr. Pootentater, and Gabe Jr 1, 2, and 3?).

Poor old Pigpen whomped up a fever this morning, after a lousy nights sleep in my room (for my part, I slept better every night at Bonnaroo than last night at the farm, grumble grumble), and he’s passed out on the couch now, poor little guy.  The cable TV is fired up, and bags have yet to be unpacked.

I have so many stories running through my head.  Several people told me that this thing would be good for me, and I didn’t really see how (except for that whole 4 day party thing), but it did something to me on a deep level, something that I’m still working out, and something to do with BJ, and life, and death, and The Beauty.  I’ll tell you folks some stories, and supplement what I’ve told you already, but not today.

Today I’m gonna spend some time with my boys, back at home.

AT’s got the music, but…

It’s an eater’s feast this Father’s Day weekend at The Cemestos Gardens. Last night it was chopped tenderloin steak and asparagus at the Flatwater Grill. This evening its Tri-tip and asparagus all over again. What a great Father’s Day treat!

Sick at Cemestos Gardens

Wingnut is on his second round of antibiotics in so many weeks[edit: 3rd in three weeks] all for a hardy ear infection. He appears to have picked up a runny nose from Lugnut. Eaves and I were up with him off and on last night. To make matters worse, the antibiotic has upset his stomach. On the bright side, we’re using cloth diapers now so we don’t have to throw away those diapers he’s blowing through. :)

Then there’s Lugnut who had to come home early from nursery school yesterday. He has the afore mentioned head cold. Right now he’s lounging on the couch. No he’s up and wants to play with the dog. Now he has a flash light.

October has a fouled up ear lobe from one of her new earrings.

Spotz and the Missus are wearing biohazard suits and I also have our friendly head cold which I’ll name, Reginald, or Reggie for short.

Want one, too?

The Baptism

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

In the words of one little old lady from my church, “they’re all Christian now”. Yep, the kids aren’t pagan babies anymore. They were baptized today amid pomp and circumstance at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. This morning the bishop was in attendance for confirmations. It cracks me up that both times my folks have attended the church have been some of the most formal services. Episcopalians do up big services pretty well.

When we went up and were standing near the baptismal font I was glad to have AT standing with us. I know I speak for the Missus here when I say I can’t think of anybody else I’d rather have looking out for our children. The Missus and I are blessed to have AT and his boys in our family like this.

Did you know that North Hollywood, CA has a candle factory? The General Wax & Candle Co., Inc. That’s where the baptismal candles were made. Seems like an odd place for a candle factory.

Saturday at the Blueberry Farm

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Howdy folks, we’re posting from the BBF down in rainy North Georgia, with a quick pictorial update:

100_1630.JPG This is the general state of things here. Nodbob, Damama and I went out today to do some clothes shopping, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while but am just too damn manly for without the aid of good ol’ Nodbob. I got some sharp new threads, and managed to be mighty cheap about it, which does my wallet good. Note the small, possessed looking girl in the lower mid section of the picture. I’m not sure where she came from.

While we were shopping, MastaG and KatyKat were wasting all sorts of our money at the local arcade. Seriously. Apparently there were no less than three Jackson’s that fell victim to the arcade in a two hour binge, an event which fills my stomach with bile and my hand with the urge to be heavy. I’ve chalked it up to the kids being kids, with parents who probably gave them money that they didn’t need.

Oh well.100_1632.JPG

S100_1635.JPGpeaking of Nodbob, heres the mohawk update. I’m afraid that we missed the opportunity to get a picture with the liberty spikes, but you can get the general idea. For those more interested in an action picture, well, here you go.

Pigpen got a new Batman costume/pajama set, which he promptly ran around in the rain with, and which he’s determined to stay in. I’ve always had a motto that if a kid is determined to be wet and cold, then a learning opportunity is in there somewhere. Incidentally, he’s also cropped up with a budding case of poison rash, which is pro100_1634.JPGbably going to be a problem. MastaG has it too, and its just driving me crazy. Freakin’ allergic kids.

Pisses me right off.

100_1637.JPGSpeaking of MastaG, this is the last place I saw him. I have no idea where he and Katy ran off to. He’s here somewhere at the compound, but theres no telling where.

I think this place is kinda like the island on Lost, there’s all sorts of odd little places that nobody expects that don’t make a lick of sense, but nonetheless, I’ll be damned, there they are.

Something else about the farm is that life is just springing up like the weeds popping up in the cracks of your driveway. Jenwright is hella pregnant, and at the fun point where you can bounce quarters off her stomach, or thump it like a ripe cantaloupe. She’s still got until the endish of June before this thing’ll find its way out of her, so theres plenty of time to buy advertising on it.

Also, we’ve got some baby quail eggs. Yep, life at the Blueberry Farm. Not sure what the plan is for the quail, I don’t think it involves some sort of violent bullet ridden Bonnie and Clyde ending, but hell, who knows. They probably deserve it just for, y’know, being quail. Friggin quail, craping all over the place.

We’re now heading to the Cracker Barrel for dinner, and then a drive home. If dinner tonight is anything like last night, we’ll be discussing computers, the proper application of the phrase “Nappy Headed Ho”, and Canadian currency.

Still, I think this chick has the right idea.
