Leftover night

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

So, today when I went to pick MastaG up after school, he was getting in the car singing (literally) the praise of leftover night.

His plan for dinner:

“First a waffle. Then I’m thinking some pizza. And then, after that, I’m going to hit the hamburger helper.”

I can understand some of his enthusiasm. Both the lady and I know our way around the kitchen, and after my king hell sick last weekend, I had an abnormally large desire to cook and eat delicious foods.

That, and, well, we’re broke this week, so no eating out.

Anyway, the choices are

  • Hamburger helper - Cheesy Macaroni or something. We had this Sunday, so its a little long in the tooth, but he doesn’t seem to care. Its good for the immune system.
  • Pizza - Monday’s the 5 dollar pizza night. I had some hardcore craving for pizza.
  • Fried Chicken - Tuesday, on top of getting the badass bed (which is like sleeping on God’s feather pillow), I made the tastiest fried chicken I’d ever made. Could have been the extra egg, could have been the frozen flour and cornmeal, could have been the graham crackers. Point is, damn, damn, damn, it was tasty.
  • Spaghetti - A perpetual favorite in the AT household. We make it good, and we make it plentiful. I had some for lunch today.
  • Waffles- Almost forgot that one, it was Sunday’s breakfast, and my first “back to life” food.  Bullet got me a bitchin Belgian waffle grill for Christmas, and we had to take it for a test run.  Yum.

So, yeah. Now that I think about it, I’m kinda psyched for leftover night too…

Sweet tooth

Man, having 14 people over at the Cemestos Gardens is a party! Kids everywhere watching movies, having light saber battles, babies crying. Moms and Dads sitting, talking, pushing kids out of the way. And tacos, lots of tacos. The Missus makes a mean taco and fried rice. Then there were the donuts. We can’t forget the donuts.

Jenwright, Dusty, it was good seeing you guys and your crew. What a beautiful baby you all have.

Think I’m going to go have another taco, or maybe just a donut. Yeah.

There are only two left which just can’t be fairly split between three kids (Wing doesn’t eat donuts yet, come on.). I’m doing us all a favor. Can you imagine the fight we would have here over a couple donuts.

Oh, and they have milk in them too. The chocolate icing has milk in it for sure. The Missus shouldn’t be eating them. Poor Wing would break out all over in a rash if she went and had too much donut.

I’d better eat them both.

Donuts…

So, how do you tell if you’ve got a bad beer?

I’ve heard of beers gone bad, but have never experienced one myself. The Missus brought home a six pack of Shiner Hefeweizen after her Thursday night out that just tastes really… funky.

It’s been a while since I had a Hefeweizen and I don’t remember them tasting this bad.

Rot & Decay in Oak Ridge

We’re thinking about composting here at the Cemestos Gardens.

The Missus saw this contraption that Martha Stewart built. Here is another set of instructions for the same sort of system. Martha let’s you play with worms when you compost her way. Those worms will freeze in the winter, though. Perhaps AT would let us winter the composter over at his place.

I like this. home-compost-bin-lrg.jpg

Do any of you all compost? Have any suggestions for composting on the cheap, in other words, less than $25U.S.?

Because I’m lazy busy and haven’t posted much lately, AT has given me an assignment. Looks like the ‘tumor has been tagged twice to do a food meme. Okay, I’ll bite.
1. Add a direct link to your post below the name of the person who tagged you. Include the city/state and country you’re in.

2. List out your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location.

Mediterranean Delight

The Original Time Out Deli

Big Ed’s Pizza

El Cantarito

Magic Wok

Because I’m lazy busy, I’m not going to go into great detail about why I like these places. Just know that they’re all locally owned hole-in-the-wall type of places (which are always the best), three-fifths of them sell beer, and they’re all very tasty.

3. Tag five others.

I’d like to know what other Oak Ridgers enjoy, so here goes: sumgirl, Daco, Netmom, LissaKay and Evan.
