GAC’s art project

Monday, September 25th, 2006

The assignment: To change something’s texture; to make it out of something it shouldn’t be made out of.

The finished product:

dsc04008.JPG

A gingerbread house made out of cardboard, extra coarse sandpaper, caulk (for icing), wire caps for gumdrops, a hinge for a door, biscuit shims for shingles and vent filters for snow. If there had been more than two (event-filled) days to work on it, the craftsmanship would have been better.
Yum!

Outing the lurkers

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Here at the ‘tumor, we’re wondering just how popular we might be getting. We have an account at a nifty place called statcounter.com which gives us a fairly good idea of how many people view our site each day (around 100 unique individuals, thanks for asking). But out of those 100 people, only 10 or so actually comment.lurker.jpg

I can understand that. There are quite a few sites that I visit at which I am not inclined to leave my footprint. Usually it’s because the subject matter is of no interest to me. But c’mon! How can the ‘tumor NOT be interesting to you folks?!

So it is with much trepidation that I post this… er, well, post. If you visit this site fairly often and find it humorous, educational, or oddly fascinating in a train-wreck-y sort of way, please let us know by leaving a comment. You know, where you’re from, how you found us, how much we suck, how foxy your grandma is. If no one comments, then I shall take down this post shamefully and with much embarassment and we shall never speak of it again.

And if you’re a regular commenter and you’re embarassed for me by how few comments this post gets, create a new account and leave something nice.

Oh. My. God.

The pic’s a little small, but this is Mattel’s newest creation, My Scene My Bling Bling Barbie.

Yes, she’s dressed like a hooker.  Why do you ask?

Grooming A. Tom Ictuma for the political track

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

It feels really weird to be as involved as we are now in local politics. Five years ago I couldn’t give two shits about the whole thing, yet here I am, writing about and supporting local politicians. The times, they are a’changin’.

politician.jpgAT has been even more involved than myself. Outside of posting on this site and the occassional comment on other sites, he was asked to work some bugs out of David Stuart’s blog. That, combined with his endorsement of Stuart on the ‘tumor the other day warranted favorable remarks from Stuart to a third party.

This morning, after I voted, I saw a woman sitting in the bed of a truck with a Stuart sign. I spoke with her for a few minutes and then sort of spontaneously gave her AT’s phone number to pass on to Stuart. I mentioned what AT had done and said for and about Stuart and she said she’d pass on the message.

Well, she did, and about an hour later, Stuart gave AT a call. I didn’t really see that coming, at least not on election day. I thought he’d have more pressing matters to attend to, but I guess today all there is to do is wait and wait some more. No amount of politicking is going to change minds at the voting booth.

AT was a little flabbergasted about the whole thing and said that Stuart had called perhaps thinking that AT had something specific he wished to talk with him about. Not being the case, they had a short but polite conversation and went about their day. But it’s nice to know that Stuart took time out of an assuredly busy schedule to call some nut-job blogger. Kudos to you, sir.
