Hey everybody, you'd never believe what happened...

I was minding my own business last week, when I got a phone call from the geeks at the Oak Ridger. They were looking to improve their online appearance, what with the forums becoming a bit of a downer, and offered me the job of moderator. I told em I'd do it, on the condition that they syndicate the 'tumor. One thing led to another, and be darned if the 'tumor doesn't have corporate sponsorship now!
Now, there were a few concerns that I had:
- The possibilty of editorial oversight, in that I won't be able to phrase things quite the same. However, I'm getting paid quite a bit of money, so thats OK.
- The idea that I had "sold out:
Look, I bought in. I mean, there are bloggers for corporations all the freaking time. It happens every day, and nobody gets onto Boing Boing or BusyMom for having ads on their sites. So, just look at it as the same old 'tumor, simply with ads on every page for the Oak Ridger. Right?
- The loss of the archives:
Now, thats a bit of a sticky situation. See, legally, a lot of what I said on the old atomictumor.com was technically shaky legal ground, and the Oak Ridger wasn't sure that they'd want to host it. Additionally, I had a Creative Commons license, and I'm saving the archives for the book deal. Should be in early 2008, once I get the ISBN numbers situated.
- The loss of the shoutbox:
Spam magnet. Moving on.
- The loss of the Cemestos authors:
Uh, yeah, see, I kinda didn't tell Bos and Eaves about this, but its OK, because I'm a sole owner of the 'tumor. Well, I mean, I was. They've got their page, Nine Months (which I'm being told I can't link to, unfortunately), so things should be OK.
OK, so things are moving along nicely. The new deal is that the new 'tumor is going to anchor the Oak Ridger's quest to provide an 'online edition' in addition to their regular print edition. They've done a great job in the past, and I'm here to make sure they do it right.
So, stick around! Post comments in the forum links below, and we'll be ready to roll!
